I Viewed You WebSite

Hi Ms. Mathis,

I just viewed your website and I thought it was absolutely wonderful. It was funny that you chose all the Disney movies that I enjoy watching over and over with my children. You did a wonderful job.

Spreadsheets are a powerful learning tool for primary, elementary and middle school students in mathematics.Students use color and pattern to shade areas of the grid to visualize addition and subtraction. The use of borders and colors helps to organize and highlight data in unique ways. The formatting of font, size, color and pattern fill of cells and borders helps focus student attention on key elements of an assignment. A spreadsheet helps convey the meaning of Decimal numbers as students arrange them in ascending order on a number line.

Students make charts and graphs from spreadsheet records, learning to organize their ideas and present information to an audience. Charts add meaning to information, helping students to analyze and interpret data, as they identify the maximum and minimum, mean, median and mode of a data set.. The computer can generate bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts. Pie charts reinforce the idea of percentages as these are represented visually, and help students compare ratios. Students make their own Bar Graphs by filling cells with color, and Clip Art is used to make Pictographs

Although a bit difficult to navigate, iPod in Education is a great resource for the teacher who is comfortable using technology and wants to jump into using iPods. Many educators are already using iPod in their curricula with great results. They’re integrating audio and video content including speeches, interviews, artwork, music, and photos to bring lessons to life.

iPod allows educators to more easily engage and match the individual needs of diverse learners. It can be an essential tool in helping students acquire new skills and improve their academic achievement.

Here are some collections of educator-created lesson plans so you can see how teachers are useing ipods as a learning tool.

Internationally Blogging (week 6)

I found out through my many pages of searching, that students and teachers use blogging in some of the same way we use blogging in the states. Blogging Internationally keeps us globally connected. It provides an opportunity to communicate with different people and to make connections that would not be possible in any other way. Teacher share mock exams with each other. It gives the students an opportunity to enjoy collaborative learning.I read somewhere that blogging gives people a chance to say their piece, make their peace and leave a piece of themselves with others to remember.CLICK HERE

Aspects of Blogging (week 5 assignment)

Blogs make integrating technology in the classroom easy: no technical knowledge is needed and users' thoughts are instantly published to the Web.
Blogs also make it easy to give students feedback on their thoughts. At the end of each entry is a comment link for others to give opinions or thoughts about the entries. A classroom blog facilitates assessment and enrichment by allowing teachers to post writing prompts, links, and other resources for students.Student blogs are blogs where the entries are created entirely by students. Traditional writing activities such as journals, learning logs, and math autobiographies are all possible on a blog. But blogs also allow users to incorporate links, images, audio, and video into posts, increasing the potential for creative project-based learning.

Mardi Gras

I use to enjoy Mardi Gras as a Kid, now as an adult I find it to be a pain in the neck. I took my children to a small parade in Gulfport, Ms, on the very small block that I was on I know there had to be 15 people to get arrested, I thought that was a little much to expose my little children too. I don't remember that going on when my parents took me.
